 The 12 km long Lainzer Tunnel links the Westbound axis (Westbahn) to the Southbound axis (Südbahn). The new double-track tunnel replaces the existing single-track line, thus easing traffic and relieving environment within the city of Vienna. Works started in 1996, commissioning is planned in 2013. The Lainzer Tunnel Project consists of four major sections, including subsection LT 31 "Maxing".
