Kadıköy is a large district on the Asian side of Istanbul with a population figure of 5 million. A 22 km long new light rail transport system will run from the Bosphorus shipping pier near Kadıköy via the suburb Kartal in the Southeast. After the planned opening in 2012 this modern metro line will carry 720,000 passengers daily.

Geology:
Alluvial deposits, sandstone, mudstone and silt as well as limestone, basalt and large andesyte dykes. Ground water is expected inshore, as the bigger part of the alignment is above sea level.
